Introduction

We are a group of concerned parents, educators, teachers, students and taxpayers that are committed to taking back control of the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township from a divided school board. This division started from the actions of four individual board members with personal agendas and whose actions have put our schools in a downward spiral. Their ongoing disregard for board by-laws and state laws, as well as the flippant waste of taxpayer's dollars must be opposed in an effort to Take Back Perry Schools.

Candidates for School Board Announced

The filing deadline has officially passed for individuals to submit their intent to run for the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township school board.

The candidates are listed below in alphabetical order and the candidates directly supported by TBPS are bolded:

  • Larry Adams
  • Rubie Alexander
  • Les Branham
  • Norman Clampitt
  • Gwen Freeman
  • David Guthrie
  • Linda Huck
  • Charles Mercer Jr.
  • Ken Mertz
  • Frederick Rhea
  • Michael Sturm

The story in the IndyStar announced the list and did mention that Larry Adams is Susan Adam’s husband. They also stated:

Though relations among board members seem to have improved since Williams’ departure, some district residents are still upset that the former superintendent is gone. A group supportive of Williams, called Take Back Perry Schools, has endorsed three candidates — Freeman, Mercer and Mertz.

The news people over at IndyStar really need to be a bit more informed about what they’re reporting. Many members of Take Back Perry Schools did get involved initially because of their desire to support Dr. Doug Williams for his position as District Superintendent. However, there were many more members that joined because they could not believe how various members of the board were handling themselves and their positions on the board. That’s why the group was named “Take Back Perry Schools”, not Save Doug Williams and that’s why we haven’t gone away even though he’s gone and won’t be coming back.

If you’d like to find out more information about the candidates that we support for school board you can visit www.tbpscampaign.org. Each candidate has their own page that tells you a little about them as individuals and their goals for moving Perry schools forward out of this quagmire we’ve been drug into by members of the existing board.
